It is situated in the north of the province of Cáceres on the “Ruta de la Plata ”. It is a medieval town founded by King Alfonso VIII. It has a great historical and artistic heritage closely linked to the monarchy and the Church.
Its monumental heritage includes the Old and the New Cathedral, various churches, convents, military monuments, palaces and stately houses.
